Laser cutting is the use of a focused high-power-density laser beam to irradiate the workpiece, causing the irradiated material to rapidly melt, vaporize, ablate or reach the ignition point. At the same time, with the help of a high-speed airflow coaxial with the beam to blow away the molten material, thus realizing the cutting of the workpiece. Laser cutting is one of the thermal cutting methods.
According to the different auxiliary gases used, laser cutting can be divided into oxygen cutting and nitrogen cutting. Oxygen cutting has a large cutting thickness and low cost, and is mainly applied to carbon steel. The cooling and protective effects of nitrogen can improve the cutting quality. For stainless steel materials, it can provide a high-quality oxidation-free cross-section, and the processing scope is also expanded to fields where oxygen cutting cannot be applied, such as aluminum and brass. Nitrogen cutting has achieved good results in practical applications and solved many processing problems. Its characteristic of not assisting combustion also enables it to process special materials such as wood and plexiglass, and it has broad application prospects.
Laser cutting has high requirements for the purity of nitrogen, especially for stainless steel thicker than 8 mm, where the nitrogen purity needs to reach 99.999%. Generally, the nitrogen pressure is required to be above 1 MPa. If cutting stainless steel thicker than 12 mm or even up to 25 mm, the nitrogen pressure needs to reach above 2 MPa or even higher.
SR modular nitrogen generator, utilizing the PSA (Pressure Swing Adsorption) principle, can produce nitrogen with a purity of 95% to 99.999%, fully meeting the requirements of laser cutting applications. Moreover, compared with traditional nitrogen generators, the compact structure of the SR modular nitrogen generator can save more installation space, reduce the consumption of compressed air and electricity, requires almost no maintenance, and has a service life of up to ten years. It has become a new favorite in the laser cutting industry.
